Boys Home Project

Jacksonville Boy's Home Association Project

The Villages Genealogical Society is undertaking a new project to digitize and index records of the Boys' Home Association of Jacksonville, Inc. from 1915 through 1955. The Boys Home Association Inc., sheltered troubled children for 94 years. They closed their residential facility, containing 10 buildings, in 2008. In September 2020, VGS members drove to Jacksonville to retrieve 40 boxes of records. These records were being held by Mr. Harry Thomas, a former resident of the facility. Mr. Thomas had been a resident for 8 years and he said "they were some of the best years of my life."

This project is being done as a preservation project of the Florida State Genealogical Society. Members of The Villages Genealogical Society initially provided manpower to scan and index the records undeer Project Leader, Mary Frances Gerace. An index to the records is now available on the FSGS website under the Research tab. You must be a member of FSGS to access the database.
