Northeastern SIG
General Information
Hello, my name is Bill Canavan and I am the coordinator of the Northeastern Special Interest Group. The SIG's geographic scope includes New England along with the Mid-Atlantic states. We meet the third Thursday of the month from Noon until 1:30pm at the SeaBreeze Recreation Center in the New Smyrna room. There are no meetings scheduled for June through August. For the most up-to-date information on meetings and topics, check the Coming Events page on our website. If you have any questions about this SIG, send an email to me (click HERE) and I will respond as quickly as I can.
The goal of the Northeastern SIG is to help all members achieve their research goals. We strive to make sure that members are aware of the resources in each state or region that can provide factual insights to their ancestors' lives. We seek to leverage these resources by presentations from organnizations holding the documentation, providing a place where the group can informally explore and share information and become aware of the historical and genealogical resources, events, and organizations unique to this region.
Members can share information about their ancestors and receive input from other group members concerning where and how to focus their efforts to reach their individual research goals. Bringing your laptop computers to meetings is encouraged so that new techniques or use of new resources can be conducted in a group setting where members are encouraged to share their knowledge to assist others with research. You must be a member of The Villages Genealogical Society (VGS) to participate in our meetings. We welcome guests to attend once without charge, but if interested in continuing, we ask that you join VGS for the budget-breaking amount of $10.00. Membership information can be found HERE.
Meeting Location: SeaBreeze Recreation Center, 2384 Buena Vista Blvd.
